Calderwood Baptist Church
has a very good relationship with Bishop Elias Taban of the
Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Southern Sudan.
Sudan is the largest and one of the most
diverse countries in Africa. A Comprehensive Peace Agreement
was signed in 2005 ending over 50 years of conflict between
North and South Sudan, which the UN estimates cost over
1.5million lives and created over 5million displaced people.
Bishop Taban was born in May1955 on the day
in which war broke out in his province. Elias became a child
soldier at the age of 13 before training to become a Civil
Engineer. Bishop Taban has also gained an Advanced Diploma
in Theology and founded EPC in 2003.
Since the end of the Civil War, Bishop Taban
has made it his mission to share Jesus with his people. EPC
have planted many churches across Southern Sudan and local
evangelists work in areas of the country where churches have
yet to be planted.
EPC also operate a number of businesses,
which support the redevelopment of the country. These
include construction, water-well drilling and agriculture.
While these businesses support the development of the
country and meet the needs of local people, all the profit
from the businesses is then reinvested into services that
EPC provide, which include schools, orphanages, health
clinics and a 50-bed hospital. |
