From unemployment to hope!
"I just don't know how I would have found a job if it wasn't for the Job Club"
"The welcome you receive at the drop-in is different from anywhere else - the people really care"
"Attending the CAP Job Club has been the best thing I've done in a long time"
These are just a few of the things that our members have been telling us about our Job Club here at CBC. The truth is that what we do at Job Club isn't really
that different from what others offer. The key to our success is not a fancy programme or the fact we can write CVs for people. The truth of our success is that Jesus is in us and that God is using this ministry to reveal his love and care through his church. Our Job Club consists of a weekly drop-in and an 8 week Steps to Employment course, which people can sign-up for (click here if you'd like help finding work)
Since January, around 50 people have attended the drop-in where they have received support with CV's and applying for jobs online. Some of them attend very regularly and others come just once or twice to get help with a specific thing. A number of them have found work and some of them go on to do the Steps to Employment Course.
Our most recent Steps to Employment course ran from January to March. Out of the 8 people who completed the course, 5 have found permanent jobs already. We were recently able to take a few of our Job Club members to the Sainsbury's Distribution Centre in Langlands for a workplace tour. And it was a joy to be able to invite our members to Hunter House before Easter to celebrate their success in finding work and to share the gospel with them.
God led us into this ministry nearly 2 years ago and it has been wonderful to see how God has equipped people in CBC to be able to serve in this ministry with great skill, love and compassion. It has been great to see people move from unemployment into work. But most of all, it has been a joy to see people come to faith and to become part of CBC.
Our next course begins on Friday 29th April and we already have about 15 people showing an interest in attending.
for those who have just started new jobs - pray they will settle in and find a place where they can make a significant contribution.
for those who are still trying to find work. Ask for the right opportunities to come their way and for encouragement as they continue to job search.
for those who will start the new course in a couple of weeks - ask that God would help them to find work and that, through the Job Club, they would come to find hope in Jesus.
for our local Job Centre - pray for the staff who work there and give thanks for their willingness to signpost people to the Job Club.
for the Job Club team - give thanks for their willingness to serve and the gifts that God has given them. Pray for protection for them and for boldness in sharing the gospel.
