Food Bank
Food Bank

EK Community Food Bank is a short-term care initiative that aims to help families who are facing financial difficulty and who do not have enough to buy all the food they require as a family. Food packages are given out freely to families without question or judgement.

We now have a number of Churches involved in the Food Bank.  Here are a list of the Churches who have drop in sessions where you can collect food parcels, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a chat with one of our volunteers.

Harvest Store & Community CafeHarvest Store Logo

Harvest Store exists to support individuals and families in our community by selling goods at low prices. We sell a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables, household items, childrens and adults clothing as well as toys, nappies and other household essentials.  We have decided to create our new Community Cafe which runs along side Harvest Store and our Food Bank Drop In Session on Wednesday's in CBC Main Hall.

We are open every Wednesday
11am - 1pm
Calderwood Baptist Church

We offer a warm welcome, tea/coffee & cakes as well as a time to relax, chat and browse the Harvest Store. All of our items are sold at very low cost in order to help those on low incomes make ends meet. Food Parcels can be collected from the hall at the same time. No referral is required and you do not have to be a registered user of the Food Bank, you can simply come along and buy what you need. Check the church calendar for details of when the Harvsest Store is open.

Our Community Care workers would love to get to know you and your family. If you would like to talk to someone about how we can support you or if you are interested in coming to church, please do get in touch with Thomas McNeil or Karen Dornan. If you are not able to email, you can call us on 01355 247660.

Giving to the Food Bank

EK Community Food Bank operates completely on the donations of individuals from the churches in East Kilbride and the local community. We are blessed to have good partnerships with local supermarkets who also support the Food Bank and other local businesses who support at different times.

Donating Food and other Household Items

We will accept donation of any non-perishable food items, household goods that are still in good working condition, and adult and children's clothing that are still in good condition.

Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at any of the churches listed above during their Food Bank opening times or you can drop items off at:

  • Hunter House Coffee Shop, Maxwellton Road - Open Monday to Saturday 9am - 4pm

  • The Village Centre, The Village - Open Monday to Friday 10am - 3pm

We also have several local supermarkets where you can drop non-perishable food items while the store is open:

  • Sainsbury's, Kingsgate

  • Morrisons, Stewartfield

  • Morrisons, Lindsayfield

  • Tesco, St Leonard's

Donations of good condition adult and children's clothing can be dropped off at Calderwood Baptist Church during their drop in on Wednesday or Friday between 11am and 1pm or at Hunter House Coffee Shop from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 4pm.

If you wish to donate household goods please contact Karen Dornan to arrange collection on 01355 247660.

Supporting Financially

There are hundreds of people every month who use our Food Bank because they have no other means of getting food for themselves and their family. People from all walks of life are using our Food Bank and as a church we want to do all we can to support those in need. £10.00 can buy a large bag of food and a hygiene bag for one of our users and it is now really simple to donate to the EK Community Food Bank:

You can donate now online through our donations page - please feel free to give as much or as little as you can manage - £10 buys a large bag of food for someone in our community who is in need or, if you can, buy more than one bag.

Alternatively cheques can be made payable to 'Calderwood Baptist Church' and sent to:
Calderwood Baptist Church
Maxwellton Road
East Kilbride
G74 3LW
Please remember to include a note specifying that this is for Food Bank and we will ensure your donation is only used for this purpose.
